The Road to World No. 1 in the WorldSkills Olympics (Part 2) "News of the Cancellation of the Games, Yet Reason for Resumption of Training

As announced in the first article of this series, we had planned to report on in-house training in the second article, but just as we were about to publish it, we received a very unfortunate news. The news is that the International WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China, has been canceled due to the new Corona virus.

A zero-corona policy was in place in China, and a strict lockdown (urban blockade) was in place, especially in Shanghai. Although the lockdown has been lifted, it appears that the international convention in the fall will be difficult.

At this point, the decision was made to "cancel" the event.

The SpoNichi article also states that the event has been "canceled" and even includes a notice that the next event will be held in 2024. Based on this article alone, it would appear that this convention has been cancelled entirely, and that our company's first international convention, Hikari Kaita, has ended up as a mirage.

Therefore, we had to temporarily suspend the production of the banner that was to be displayed on the company building and the posters that were to be displayed throughout the company, and we were forced to reconsider whether to change Kaita's interview comments in the company introduction movie (such as his desire to become the world's No. 1). We were also forced to put the publication of the second installment of this series on hold.

However, I actually resumed training for the international competition last week. Although no official announcement has been made yet, this is in response to the news that an alternative venue is about to be finalized, and since the event will still be held in October, this one-month blank is very painful, but it is the same for all the competitors.

As soon as we receive the official announcement, we will update you. In the meantime, I have been interviewed by a publishing company, my boss, the deputy plant manager, has been busy coordinating the training schedule, and so on. We hope to be able to report on these developments in the next issue. (To be continued)
