Marushin News] Participated in "Grass Straw Reuse Project" Introduced grass straws to be reused for penguin bedding

On June 1, we introduced grass straws at our head office for use in the alcohol check required when driving company vehicles. (Hirokawa-cho, Fukuoka Prefecture), and straws used for alcohol checks are collected, cleaned, disinfected, and reused as bedding for penguins at the Fukuoka City Zoo.

In the past, plastic straws were used for alcohol checks, and the head office used approximately 2,000 straws per year. By switching to grass straws, we believe we can reduce the amount of plastic used, which in turn will contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions during incineration.

We are committed to the SDGs from all perspectives, including the environment, community, and health. Our participation in the "Grass Straw Reuse Project" is another example of our commitment to the SDGs, and we will continue to spread awareness of the project to our business partners and other companies.

■About the Grass Straw Reuse Project

OREC green lab Fukuoka, operated by OREC Holdings, Inc., has introduced straws made of grass, which are completely derived from nature, to promote a sustainable society. In order to make the most of the “grass” material, the used straws are cleaned and disinfected before being given to the Fukuoka City Zoo to be reused as bedding for penguins. In this project, we are looking for companies that are interested in using and reusing grass straws in the same way for the sake of a sustainable society.
Grass straws are pesticide-free, additive-free, and preservative-free. In addition to UV sterilization, the straws are also heat sterilized to ensure a high level of safety.
