Press Release] Introduction of "Retreadable Tires" that Reduce CO₂ by 64% during Manufacturing

The Company,SDGsAs part of our activities, we have introduced retread tires from Nichi-Mai Rubber Corporation (Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture) and will begin full-scale use of these tires in August.

A retreaded tire is a recycled tire in which the tread rubber (the part of the tire that meets the road surface) worn by driving is shaved off and new rubber is applied to restore the tire's functionality and reuse it.

By replacing only the worn tread rubber, the new tires are approximately68%resources in the tire manufacturing process.CO2emissions by approximately64%Reduction (*Example of tires for large trucks and buses):(From the National Council for Rehabilitated Tires pamphlet)

Currently, the annual amount of waste tires produced in Japan is770010,000, including the scrap tires associated with the scrapping of vehicles.910010,000 bottles,987000The amount of the water can reach as high as 1,000 tons (1,000 tons).2021(Year). (*Surveyed by Japan Automobile Tire Association)

Retreaded tires are less expensive than purchasing new tires, are comparable in durability to new tires, and are more environmentally friendly, as they recycle resources to reduce CO2 emissions during production.2emissions, and also contributes to the reduction of waste tires. It is attracting attention as an environmentally and economically friendly new way to reuse tires.

In Europe and the U.S., truck and bus tires are used for about50%Retreaded tires are used in the following areas. In addition, retreading is already a global standard for aircraft tires, as multiple retreads are the norm due to the excessive tread wear caused by the excessive pressure during takeoff and landing.

Nichi-America Rubber was founded in 1947 as a manufacturer of rehabilitation tires,1955In 1949, the first rehabilitation tire plant was established.JISThe factory is licensed for labeling and mainly manufactures rubber products such as rehabilitation tires, thread rubber, and industrial supplies.

In February of this year, we had introduced a truckload of retreaded tires on a trial basis from Nichi-America Rubber. From now on, we will actively promote the introduction of retreaded tires when replacing tires.
