[Press Release] 10-Year Agreement with Kurume City for J-Credit Trading: Long-Term Commitment to Zero CO₂ Emissions at Headquarters Plant and Local Forest Conservation

Our company has recently entered into an agreement to continuously purchase “Kappa no Mori J-Credits,” generated by the Tanushimaru Property District in Kurume City, for the next 10 years.
Through this agreement, by trading up to 200 metric tons of CO₂ absorption capacity annually, we will further ensure that our headquarters factory achieves zero CO₂ emissions (carbon neutrality) over the next 10 years, while also providing long-term support for local forest conservation efforts and working toward the realization of a sustainable local community.

■ About J-Credit and the Tanushimaru Property District of Kurume City

The J-Credit system is a program in which the government certifies the amount of greenhouse gas emissions reduced or absorbed through projects—such as the installation of energy-saving equipment by companies and local governments, or forest management—as “credits.”
The Kurume City Tanushimaru Property District is a special local public entity that owns and manages approximately 770 hectares of forest in the Minami-no-Yama mountain range in southern Fukuoka Prefecture; Kurume Mayor Shingo Haraguchi serves as its administrator. The Property District received national certification in fiscal year Heisei 24 for the “Kurume City Tanushimaru Property District Thinning Promotion Project” and has been selling the “Kappa no Mori J-Credits” issued under this program. Through the continued purchase of these credits, our company will provide long-term support for appropriate forest management.

■Background and Purpose of the Agreement

Our company has achieved “carbon neutrality”—offsetting CO₂ emissions from manufacturing processes at our headquarters plant—for five consecutive years. We have now agreed to support the “Kurume City Tanushimaru Property District Thinning Promotion Project,” a forest conservation initiative for the Minou Mountain Range—a symbol of our local community, Kurume City—and to establish a long-term partnership spanning 10 years. Through this agreement, we will support the sustainable decarbonization of the local community while ensuring the environmental added value of the packaging and labels we provide to our corporate customers over the medium to long term.

■ Our Sustainability Initiatives and the Rollout of the “Environmental Mark”

1. Achieving Stable “Carbon-Neutral” Manufacturing
Through this long-term agreement, our main factory commits to continuing to manufacture products in a carbon-neutral environment for the next 10 years. This will enable us to provide our customers with a sustainable supply chain that minimizes environmental impact.

2. Supporting Adoption Through the Free Provision of a Proprietary “Environmental Label”
Our company operates a system for displaying the “Carbon-Zero Energy Mark” (*) to certify that products were manufactured in a carbon-neutral environment. By utilizing this mark, our corporate clients can clearly communicate their commitment to environmental sustainability to consumers through their own products, thereby helping to promote ethical consumption.
*The Carbon-Zero Energy Mark is a certification mark issued by the Japan Sustainable Printing Association.

Our company is actively promoting the SDGs to help build a sustainable world, and we are also actively working toward carbon neutrality by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, such as CO₂, generated by our business operations. We believe that this purchase of “Kappa no Mori J-Credits” will accelerate these efforts, and by supporting Kurume City’s forest thinning project, we hope to contribute to local forest conservation and regional development.
