Waterproof paper
Recently, we have been receiving an increasing number of inquiries about "water-resistant paper," perhaps because of the frequent rainfall, and it seems that there are various purposes for using it, such as to prevent frosting when taking out of the refrigerator, for use in a watery place, for drinks, or for rainy days.
There are various types of water-resistant paper.
The first thing that comes to mind when I hear the word "waterproof" is synthetic paper such as Yupo paper, often used for stickers, but also available without glue.
YUPO paper was developed by Oji Paper and Mitsubishi Petrochemical to make petroleum-based paper to reduce deforestation. It was named "YUPO" from the initial letters of Mitsubishi Petrochemical "YU," "P" for paper, and "O" for Oji Paper, and I heard once that it was developed by renting a manufacturing plant only at midnight after the day shift workers of Mitsubishi Petrochemical left.

Heat-resistant PET-based paper is often used when heat is applied.
Water-resistant, but difficult to ruled lines and stamping.

There are two types of water-resistant paper used in packaging: those with only the surface layer treated to be water-resistant, and those with even the fibers in the middle layer water-resistant. OK Phrase is made of the latter, but its price range is similar to that of water-resistant paper with only the surface layer treated to be water-resistant.
But the reason I like this paper is not only because of its affordability.
OK Phrase is designed to come in contact with food products, and is made from 100% virgin pulp of systematically managed forest wood (FSC compliant), using scraps from thinning wood from the magnificent forests of Tokushima, which are used to make square timber for construction and other purposes.
Also, because there is no waste paper in the product, there is less risk of foreign matter (metal content, etc.) contained in the waste paper, and no fluorescent bleach or PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) are used. helping to protect Japan's forests and being safe are two reasons why we like the OK phrase.
In addition to water resistance, oil resistance may also be required. It is important to select oil-resistant paper according to the intended use.
