If mislabeled, a voluntary recall (recall) must be promptly issued.
In December 2018, the Law Partially Amending the Food Labeling Law (Law No. 97 of 2018) was promulgated, and by June 2021, it will be mandatory to notify administrative agencies when voluntarily recalling food and other products.
Until now, notification of voluntary recalls has been left to the ordinances of each municipality, but from now on, information will be entered online in principle, notified to each prefecture, and made public through the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare and the Consumer Affairs Agency.
In the January-June 2020 voluntary recall cases, mislabeling regarding allergies and mislabeling regarding expiration dates were the most common.
If a product is incorrectly labeled, not only will it cause a loss of public trust, but allergies and best-before dates are also extremely important to the health and lives of customers. Labeling requirements are added and updated every year, and what was OK a long time ago may not be OK today.
In order to provide accurate product information to customers, we recommend that you pay close attention to the labeling and review the current product (labeling) once again.
