Health Management Column] Thinking about the "Certification System for Excellent Health Management Corporations" (Part 1)

It seems like only a few days ago that I was happy to hear in March of this year, "We did it! It seems like only a few days ago that I was happy to hear that we were selected as one of the "Bright 500" corporations for excellent health management.

This year, the application process for the "Excellent Health Management Corporation 2023" certification has begun again.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) website, "health management" means "considering the health management of employees, etc. from a managerial perspective and strategically implementing it. Based on the company's corporate philosophy, investing in the health of employees and others is expected to lead to the revitalization of the organization, such as increased vitality and productivity of employees, which in turn leads to improved business performance and stock price. Health management is one of the initiatives for "extending healthy life expectancy of the nation," which is positioned in the Japan Revitalization Strategy and the Future Investment Strategy," the report explains.

The benefits of health management for companies are the reduction of presenteeism (inability to get to work but not feeling well) and absenteeism (inability to perform the work itself due to physical or mental illness), and the improvement of business performance by increasing work engagement (positive psychological state toward work). In other words, health management is a win-win relationship between workers and companies. (To be continued)
