President's Column] The Impact of Customers' Requests for Scope 3 Reduction

We have achieved carbon zero (net zero CO2 emissions) at the Scope 1 and 2 levels (i.e., energy consumption in our own business activities).

This was partly due to our self-help efforts, such as aggressive investment in production facilities with low power consumption and the conversion of all vehicles (about 100 vehicles), including trucks, to hybrids, but the turning point for us was that we were provided with a renewable energy quota by Kyushu Electric Power Company, which had the greatest impact on our "electric power. As for CO2 emissions, which are inevitable, we have achieved virtually zero emissions by contributing to Kurume City's emissions trading project.

However, the majority of actual emissions are Scope 3 (CO2 emissions during the manufacture and delivery of raw materials, transportation to customers, and use and disposal by customers).
The larger companies are increasingly being asked by the market to reduce their entire supply chain, not only their own Scope 1 and 2, but also to go beyond Scope 3 (mainly supplier emissions). In other words, the larger the customer, the more they will be asking their suppliers (i.e., our Scope 1 and 2 level) to reduce their CO
Kirin, a major alcoholic beverage company, has already held a briefing session with 20 suppliers that are major emitters of CO2 and requested their cooperation in reducing CO2 emissions.
In the future, any delay in response could lead to removal from the supply chain. We would like to recommend that you take action as soon as possible. Please feel free to contact our sales staff to arrange a meeting with one of our in-house experts.
